French Courses
The French Institute of Rwanda offers a wide range of programs adapted to all profiles. You will find French courses for adults and children, covering all levels (from beginner to advanced), as well as targeted professional courses and tailor-made private lessons.
The duration varies depending on the program chosen. In general, our courses run for 5 to 6 weeks per session.

Kinyarwanda Courses
The group Kinyarwanda course costs 55,000 RWF per session (excluding learning materials).
Sessions last 5 weeks, with two classes per week from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, making them suitable for working professionals.

Yes. Level 1 is specifically designed for complete beginners and covers the essential basics of everyday communication.

Exams
The French Institute of Rwanda is an accredited official examination center in Kigali. You can take:
- DELF and DALF: official state diplomas (available in All Public, Prim for children, and Junior for teenagers versions)
- TCF and TEF: language tests often required for immigration and mobility procedures (TCF Canada, TCF Quebec, TEF Canada)
The main difference lies in validity and structure:
- DELF/DALF assesses a specific level (from A1 to C2). Once obtained, it is valid for life.
- TCF and TEF are general proficiency tests providing a score that reflects your level at the time of the exam. These certificates are valid for 2 years.
Dates and fees are regularly updated and available on the dedicated exam pages.
No. Registration is open to all candidates. However, preparation courses are available to improve your chances of success.
Processing times vary depending on the type of exam.
Library (Mediathèque)
To borrow materials, simply register at the French Institute of Rwanda media library. Different annual membership options are available depending on your profile (students, general public, children, professionals).
Culturethèque is our official digital library. Free for all library members, it gives access to thousands of online resources 24/7: French press magazines, comics, novels, audiobooks, concerts, and web documentaries, accessible from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Access to the library space for on-site consultation is free and open to everyone. However, an annual subscription is required to borrow books or access the Culturethèque platform.
Your membership card allows you to borrow up to 3 books at a time for a maximum of 3 weeks.
The library is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Registration and Practical Information
A placement test is mandatory to ensure you are placed in the appropriate level.
No. Textbooks and workbooks are sold separately at the reception and can be reused across multiple levels.
Payments are made by bank card or bank transfer only. Cash payments are not accepted.
