SHAPING FUTURE(S)
Shaping Future(s) is a major program dedicated to the development of cultural and creative industries in Rwanda. It aims to sustainably strengthen skills, collaboration, and market access for professionals in the sector.
Coordinated by the French Institute of Rwanda, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and Ishyo Arts Center , the project is fully funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda.
A project to transform the creative industries
Shaping Future(s) aims to contribute to Rwanda’s economic and social development by positioning the creative industries as a key driver of growth.
The project focuses on several sectors:
Music
Visual arts
Performing arts
Through professional training, artistic mentoring, creative residencies, and networking opportunities, participants develop their technical, creative, and entrepreneurial skills.

● Strengthen the skills of artists, technicians, producers, and cultural managers
● Foster professional collaboration and network development
● Improve access to local and international markets
● Support sustainable, inclusive, and economically viable creation
Engagement and Inclusion
Shaping Future(s) places social and geographic inclusion at the core of its approach:
Gender equality
A minimum target of 25% female participation across all activities
Decentralization
Direct involvement of Rwanda’s five provinces to extend impact beyond Kigali
Eco-responsibility:
Promotion of environmentally sustainable practices within creative processes

The project aims to deliver tangible results for Rwanda’s cultural sector:
189 professionals trained and equipped
• 30 artists certified to teach in the public sector
• 21 projects funded
• 75% of participants reporting increased income or visibility
To ensure continuity beyond the project’s duration (30 months), Shaping Future(s) relies on:
• Open-source resource sharing
• The creation and activation of an alumni network
